Taryn Toic President-ElectAs an industrial hygienist with a safety focused background, Taryn thoroughly enjoys learning about both the technical and people focused aspects of the profession and learning about a variety of industries and processes. Taryn is originally from Kelowna but moved to Vancouver to pursue her Master’s in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at UBC. She is now a true Vancouverite who loves yoga and running along the Seawall. In her free time, you can find catching up on her favourite podcasts and experimenting with vegan recipes in the kitchen with her Vitamix.

Bobby Sidhu

Bobby is a faculty member in the BCIT Occupational Health and Safety Program. He loves teaching and introducing a new batch of hopefuls to the health and safety professional every year. When not at BCIT he enjoys spending his time with his two young daughters and wife.

Bianca Malouf PresidentBianca is owner of BOSS Consulting Inc. and currently in Kitimat at the LNG Canada Construction Project for the JPG Fluor Joint Venture as the Health and Hygiene Manager. Her past experience as a hygienist includes large Oil and Gas companies in Alberta and BC as well as the largest ship building and marine group in British Columbia. She obtained her Masters’ of Science from the School of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of British Columbia in 2012. She is the CEO of replying to the wrong distribution list and giving everybody a laugh.  Currently working on bringing IH to the TikTok forefront.

Tristan Durrad
Secretary

Tristan graduated from the UBC Occupational and Environmental Hygiene program in 2021. During his post graduate years, Tristan studied the exposure to crystalline silica and focused on silica sampling for his practicum project.

As a young industrial hygienist, Tristan believes that occupational injury and disease is preventable and strives to achieve that in each of his projects. Having previous experience in a range of industries such as construction, remediation, film, mining and wildfires, Tristan is viewed as a respected and valuable consultant on the Aura Health and Safety team.

Tristan’s passion for industrial hygiene allows him to grow and specialize in areas such as asbestos, silica, and lead management and monitoring, indoor air quality, PAHs exposure assessment, wood dust exposure assessment and noise surveys and dosimetry. He is also actively pursuing his Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation.

Gurleen Bhatia
Education

Gurleen Bhatia is a faculty member of the Occupational Health & Safety Program at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Master's degree in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene from the University of British Columbia. She began her career committed to safeguarding public health and safety as an Environmental Health Officer and eventually transitioned over to the realm of worker heath and safety as an OHS professional. In her current role as an educator, she finds it very rewarding to be able to help mold the minds of budding OHS professionals entering this field.

Gurleen believes that coffee is a food group of its own so you are bound to find her with a cup of coffee in her hand at any given time of the day!

Eve Neesham

Eve is a Biological and Radiation Safety Associate at the University of British Columbia. Originally from Quebec, she earned her MSc in Occupational and Environmental Health from the University of Montreal and moved to Vancouver five years ago. Although she misses poutine, she really enjoys the beauty of BC and all that it has to offer. When she’s not working you can find her snowboarding in the winter, paddle boarding in the summer, or doing crossword puzzles on rainy days. Eve has been a member of the AIHA BC-Yukon Local Section since 2017.

Luis works as a Corporate Industrial Hygienist for the Metro Vancouver region. He holds a Master of Public Health in the field of Occupational and Environmental Health from the University of Toronto. Luis enjoys international travel adventures, exploring the great outdoors, world traditional cuisine and futbol.

 

Rosanna Ma
Treasurer

Rosanna attended UBC for her undergrad and obtained a Health and Safety Diploma from BCIT. She has five years of Industrial Hygiene consulting experience. When she’s not working, you can find her taking care of her parent’s puppy, attempting to grow something in the garden, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

Tammy is an Occupational Hygienist with BC Hydro.  She has 18 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Hygiene and hold the CIH designation.  Tammy earned her diploma in Industrial Hygiene Technology from Lambton College in Sarnia Ontario and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University.  In  her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, snowboarding and playing hockey.

Jasmond Sangh
Social Media Director

Jasmond graduated from SFU's Health Sciences and BCIT's OHS program. He has worked in health and safety for various industries such as retail, insurance, construction, property management and film productions. Jasmond is currently working within the industrial hygiene consulting industry. Jasmond enjoys hiking, playing badminton, soccer, and spending time with his family.

Cody Fong
BCIT Student Representative

Cody is a second-year Occupational Health and Safety student at BCIT. Prior to pursuing a career in health and safety, he was a lead hand in aircraft ground handling at YVR airport. In the summer you will find Cody enjoying his collection of Hawaiian shirts around the many parks of South Surrey!

Laura Silva
UBC Student Representative

Laura recently moved to Vancouver where she is pursuing her MSc in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at UBC. She doesn't have a lot of experience in the field but she has known that she wanted to pursue a career in the occupational and safety field after seeing how passionate one of her professors was about the topic while doing her undergrad in the US. She enjoys traveling, getting to know different cultures, trying new food and listening to music. She was also part of the Colombian national team multiple times during her swimming career.
